Polruan is across the river from Fowey, a regular passenger ferry links them both together. Like Fowey the back streets of Polruan are a joy to walk around with some incredible houses and buildings which are only found in Cornwall. Also some incredible views from the top of the town. I wish I had some more pictures, and having spent so little time here, it's on a list of places that we will visit again.

The above five images are of the Plruan Blockhouse which is comparatively well preserved to a degree, due to the efforts of various enthusiastic Councillors and Conservationists on the Polruan side of the river. There were two (the Fowey blockhouse being beyond both repair and any preservation, butthe ruins can still be seen) both were built at the end of the 14th century to protect the harbour from pirates and the French ( Nothings changed then? ) A chain was pulled up across the river between the two blockhouses to stop vessels entering the harbour and conversely, to stop them leaving if they had the temerity to "cross the line".
